Proof-first, workflow-led engagements for Central Pennsylvania SMBs.

Why this firm exists

This practice was built for businesses that want a practical answer to a simple question: can AI improve this workflow without creating more risk than value? Too much of the market jumps straight to tools or broad strategy. This firm starts with the workflow, the baseline, and the reviewer path. If the case is there, it gets proved. If it is not, the client still leaves with a clear decision.

What principal-led means here

Principal-led is not a style word. It means the same person scopes the work, leads the work, and owns the output. Will brings both an architect’s perspective and a builder’s mindset to the engagement, staying close to the buyer’s real questions: what changes, how it gets measured, what reviewers need to see, and what the team will actually be left with. The work spans strategy, architecture, governance, operations, and enablement, not just prototyping.

What the work is built around

  • Real operational workflows
  • Bounded scope
  • Measurable outcomes
  • Guardrails up front
  • Clean handoff

How the work gets carried out

  • Start with a real decision, not a broad ambition
  • Build the control model early
  • Make the operating posture explicit
  • Teach while building
  • Keep the work human-centered

Background

I’m Will Tarves, founder and principal of Nittany Valley Applied AI. For more than 25 years, I’ve been engineering systems and solving operational problems with technology. Today, I help organizations in Central Pennsylvania and beyond apply AI in ways that are practical, measurable, and grounded in how work actually gets done. My applied AI work grows out of that same orientation: practical systems, clear decisions, and solutions that can hold up in the real world.

What prior work has included

  • Governed AI operating model design
  • Secure enterprise LLM architecture and control layers
  • Service portfolio and support model design
  • Responsible AI controls for sensitive workflows
  • Evaluation frameworks, adoption materials, and handoff documentation
Local focus

The firm is designed for Central Pennsylvania small and mid-sized businesses that want a practical first step, not a broad initiative.

Core belief

People have purpose in their work. AI should help them fulfill more of it by reducing repetitive burden, creating room for better judgment, and expanding human capability rather than treating people as disposable.
